The scene is all clear over at the Reddy Ice plant. The scene was released to the company at about 3:30 PM and all units are off scene.
A hazardous materials team from the Dalton Fire Department has closed the leaking valve from an early morning gas leak in downtown Dalton and the perimeter has now been shrunk down to the block around Reddy Ice, surrounded by Hamilton Ave, Pentz, Emery, and Morris Street.
Initial tests by firefighters showed elevated levels of ammonia in the building. The Dalton Fire Department ventilated with fans to try to speed up the process of clearing any gas from the building.
The gas leak was discovered early Tuesday morning at the Reddy Ice in downtown Dalton.
The Dalton Police and Fire Department were on scene and closed off the area between Thornton, Cuyler, Walnut, and the railroad tracks.
The leak was an anhydrous ammonia leak and was caused by a problem that occurred during maintenance, according to the Dalton Fire Department.
