Man beaten, robbed trying to buy crack

A 45-year-old man told police that he was beaten up and robbed early Monday morning while trying to buy crack cocaine from local dealers.

Stephen A. Banks told police that he’d been drinking downtown at the Hair of the Dog bar with his brother until 1 a.m. Monday, according to police.

He left the bar and headed to St. Elmo with a friend, Lonnie Hood, according to police.

“The victim had a craving to go smoke some crack cocaine, and Mr. Hood had supplied him with the drug in the past,” the report reads.

The men made arrangements to have drugs delivered to Hood’s 5010 Florida Ave. apartment. A new, white sport utility vehicle with gold trim pulled into the driveway and Hood went to the car to make the drug deal, the report states, but three suspects got out of the SUV and surrounded him.

One suspect, wearing a white T-shirt, said he “had a gun and would shoot [Hood] if he ran,” the report states. The other two men began kicking and punching Hood, knocking him to the ground, where they stole his wallet, according to the report.

The men then drove away with $240 and Hood’s driver’s license and Social Security card.

The three suspects all were described as 18-year-old black males, each about 5 feet 6 inches and weighing between 130 and 150 pounds.

Woman charged with biting man

Chattanooga police issued a warrant on a woman for domestic assault after she bit her ex-boyfriend.

Kimberly Gilliam, 18, went to her ex-boyfriend’s home in the 2700 block of Citico Avenue to “talk things out” Monday night, according to a police report.

The boyfriend, 19-year-old Joe Pitts, told Gilliam he did not want to “work on things and advised her to leave.”

Pitts later told police that Gilliam refused to leave, tried to go back inside his house, then assaulted him. When police examined Pitts, they found a “fresh bite mark on his left forearm” and bloody scratch marks on his back and face.

Gilliam left the home and police told Pitts to avoid contact with her.
