Patriotism means loyalty to Trump?

Patriotism has acquired a new status in the current political climate. I am interested to learn exactly what that represents and who might be allowed to identify themselves as being one. All it seems to require is that a person, preferably a U.S. citizen and non-Muslim, be convinced Donald Trump is demonstrating himself to be an exceptional president, regardless of his lack of bona fides. He clearly speaks to and for those who consider themselves to be patriots. Based on what is not altogether clear, apart from perceiving themselves to be one.

Then there are the Republican members of Congress who are also clearly “patriots” because they are in almost total support of Trump. I wonder sometimes if they might have a secondary motive. Paul Ryan, particularly, expressed in an interview he did not want to comment on the president’s personality and leadership but was only concerned with the Republican agenda. The suggestion was made he, and his compatriots, might be making a Faustian bargain, considering the unpredictability of our new president.

How hey or anyone ccan ontinue to respect President Trump is hard for me to understand, let alone digest.
