A somber milestone
Before touching on this week’s highlights in local health care news, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge a somber milestone in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – the U.S. death toll from COVID-19 topped 200,000 on Tuesday. The Associated Press reported that “the number of dead is equivalent to a 9/11 attack every day for 67 days.” It’s also greater than the population of Chattanooga.
Dozens of readers reached out to me following the launch of this newsletter last week, and I’ve appreciated their feedback and insights. It’s clear that there’s still great interest in all types of coronavirus coverage – whether its personal stories, analysis of the economic impact or dispelling misinformation – so expect ongoing stories on these topics. As one reader wrote, “I agree we are at a turning point, but we all still need to be vigilant. This is not over yet.”
Lastly, if you haven’t had a chance to check out this month’s Edge magazine with our annual Champions of Health Care award winners, you can find them here. We’ve been rolling out their stories throughout September, and they’re a reminder of the many good things happening in health care across our community.
Until next week, stay healthy!
