Surprise. Today’s sermon has to do with hunting — even though fall is on the other side of the calendar. Sure, some spring turkey hunters may be getting their camo ready, but most hunters have hung up the waders/shotguns/hunter orange until the nights start getting longer again.
But hunting is back in the news today. And for all you hunters out there — and there are lots in this state — this news isn’t particularly good.
Somebody in Wisconsin has been accused of slaughtering a bunch of deer over the last couple of years. Prosecutors are calling it an unprecedented “thrill kill” spree.
According to the lawmen, the 20-year-old suspect admitted that he and his friends spotlighted dozens of deer, then shot them. And left them on the ground. All for the “thrill” of it all. And some side bets.
We know some real hunters who hate to see an animal draw its last breath. We wouldn’t want to hear what they had to say about this “hunter.” We daresay it wouldn’t be pretty.
