With the Times Free Press’ seventh annual women’s expo coming up this weekend, it’s time to ask:
What can She do for you?
The answers are multiple and varied.
Let’s start with the celebrities.
Saturday, July 25, features Leigh Anne Tuohy, the spunky matriarch of the family that inspired the 2009 Oscar-winning film “The Blind Side.” The Tuohys opened their doors and hearts to (and ultimately adopted) Michael Oher, an illiterate and homeless black teen who eventually became a first-round NFL draft pick. Tuohy’s inspirational talks are meant to challenge her audiences to identify the needs around them and help. She and husband Sean chronicled their version of “The Blind Side,” originally a book by Michael Lewis, in their book “In a Heartbeat: Sharing the Power of Cheerful Giving.”
Sunday, July 26, spotlights Tabatha Coffey, star of the Bravo television series “Tabatha Takes Over.” Also an author and entrepreneur, she is known for her no-nonsense approach, savvy business expertise and ability to help struggling businesses and transform lives. Coffey began her career as a hairstylist. Her memoir, “It’s Not Really About the Hair: The Honest Truth About Life, Love and the Business of Beauty” was a huge success. She followed up in 2014 with “Own It! Be the Boss of Your Life – at Home and in the Workplace.”
Throughout the weekend, visitors can watch fashion shows, sample foods and beauty products, get free health screenings and check out health and nutrition products.
The fashion shows include one with Susan G. Komen breast cancer survivors and another featuring police officers and firefighters. The first responders also will be available for photos on Sunday.
CHI Memorial’s free health screenings include the Mole Patrol, for checking out those beauty marks, as well as bone density tests and health risk assessments.
