Cheerleading coach suspended

PDF: Suspension Letter

No timeline has been set for how long a cheerleading coach will be suspended without pay from East Hamilton School, officials said Wednesday.

High school coach Stephanie Knox was suspended Tuesday for allegedly not keeping track of how, where or how much school money was being spent.

Specifically, officials are investigating whether Ms. Knox:

* Accepted some sort of benefit from a vendor as a result of her employment with the school system;

* Failed to properly track when school money was collected or spent;

* Oversaw and managed unapproved school fundraisers, and

* Failed to issue purchase orders or receipts for cash and checks.

Ms. Knox could not be reached for comment.

A letter of suspension, written by Stacy Stewart, the school system’s director of licensed personnel, states that if the allegations are true Ms. Knox could face further disciplinary action.

Ms. Stewart and school system Chief Financial Officer Tommy Kranz did not return calls seeking comment.

The outcome of the investigation could result in anything from reinstatement and back pay to termination, said Danielle Clark, spokeswoman for Hamilton County Schools.

“Once all the facets of the issue are brought together, the matter will be sent to Dr. Scales and he’ll make a decision,” she said.

Ms. Clark said she could comment further on the issue because it is under investigation.
