A Collegedale resident shot and killed a bear Sunday to protect himself and others, according to Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency spokesman Dan Hicks.
“We hate that we had to put the bear down, but it sounds like it was the man’s only option,” Mr. Hicks said.
The bear had been “wreaking havoc on (Collegedale) neighborhoods” since early June, Mr. Hicks said, adding that it had torn siding off a house and put its head through a window.
Since the bear had been a nuisance to the community, the TWRA will not press charges against the man who killed the bear, Mr. Hicks said.
