GOP opposition to ‘don’t ask’ wrong
Men and women in the military – Americans who are willing to sacrifice their lives for our country – should be allowed the dignity of being honest about who they are and who they love.
Yet, Senate Republicans still refuse to give them – or the Pentagon – enough respect to end “don’t ask/don’t tell.”
The repeal of DADT is a civil rights issue, and so much more. The Pentagon and most military leaders recommend ending DADT because it is obsolete and undermines the military mission. Yet, Senate Republicans voted against repeal because they care more about their own political careers than the service careers of highly qualified soldiers who are committed to protecting our nation.
We deserve better leadership than we are getting from our Republican senators.
