Comcast will open a new Xfinity retail location at Hamilton Place mall today as the cable TV giant expands its mobile and other telecom services.
The 1,500-square-foot store will help customers gain hands-on access to Comcast’s Xfinity Mobile, Internet, X1, Phone, and Xfinity Home products.
Comcast, the world’s largest broadcasting and cable television company, announced this month it is offering cell phone service to its Xfinity customers with an offer meant to catch cost-conscious consumers. Comcast has a deal with Verizon to use its cellular phone network, but the company has also been building its own internet coverage, including 17 million Wi-Fi hotspots across the country and more than 10,000 in the Chattanooga area.
Xfinity is offering an unlimited plan price of $45 per month with no line charges, no access fees and no contract. You can also buy data by the gig – $12 per gig – and not all phones on your plan have to be the same.
Comcast said it also intends to open a location at 1926 Gunbarrel Road in 2018. The new stores will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., on weekdays and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
The new Xfinity store is the first of its kind to be added in Chattanooga, and is part of a broader national effort to transform how customers do business with Comcast.
The new store will bring together Comcast’s suite of products and services in a unique retail offering. With dedicated sales consultants, touchscreen displays and product showcases, the store will serve as an interactive space in which customers can try out Comcast’s internet, video, phone and home security and automation products and services.
“This investment provides customers with an inviting, one-stop shop for exploring our latest products and how they work together to provide a best-in-class offering,” said Vic Pascarelli, vice president of sales and marketing for Comcast.
In total, Comcast is adding more than 5,500 customer service jobs in the U.S. to support its expanded menu of services.
Comcast invests over $120 million per year in Tennessee, company spokeswoman Sara Jo Walker said. Over the last two years in Chattanooga, Comcast has deployed a high-performance 10-gigabit network for the business community, launched Gigabit Pro, a two-gigabit residential internet service, and a one-gigabit internet service.
