CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – After a very cold winter last year, and a lot of snow – up to ten inches across the Tennessee Valley, even more in some of the higher elevations – everybody wants to know what this winter is going to be like.
First of all, we’ll start with Christmas and take a look at what usually happens. Last time we got any significant snow was back in 1989.
Down in the Valley area, there’s only about a 1 in 25 chance of a White Christmas. That isn’t a very good chance for any type of snow. In the Mountains, it’s about 1 in 15 chance of getting that snow. So we don’t expect a lot over Christmas time.
Winter temperatures, on the average, will be warmer. The Jet Stream is going to be north of us. We’ll have above normal temperatures. The cold is air is going to stay farther off to the north.
