Inbound traffic on interstates 24 and 75 was backed up onto Interstate 75 in both directions after an initial crash at 6:38 a.m. between the Fourth Avenue exit and the top of Missionary Ridge brought motorists to a standstill.
Since then, two multi-vehicle crashes occurred on northbound Highway 153 at I-75 and on southbound I-75 near the Standifer Gap overpass, TDOT SmartWay Traffic maps showed.
TDOT SmartWay traffic cameras showed traffic moving slowly in the two left lanes headed west at the ridge cut and heavy inbound traffic on I-75 and I-24.
The mess at the ridge cut was estimated to be cleared up by 8:38 a.m. and the other two were estimated to be cleared between 9:40 and 10:13 a.m., according to TDOT.
