CLEVELAND, Tenn. – People who owe delinquent Bradley County property taxes today can begin making partial or installment payments.
Also effective today, there will be no minimum amount required to make a partial payment either for current or delinquent property taxes, said County Trustee Mike Smith.
Bradley already has a partial-payment option in place for current and future taxes, he said.
There are three methods of payment for the installment program: automatic withdrawal from a valid checking account, mailed payments or payments made at the trustee’s office. The decision on the amount to be paid each month is the sole responsibility of the taxpayer.
Smith’s request for extending the payment option to delinquent property taxes recently was approved by the Tennessee comptroller’s office. The plan had the backing of state Sen. Mike Bell, R-Riceville, and state representatives Eric Watson and Kevin Brooks, both R-Cleveland, and the County Commission.
“The partial payment programs already in place have proven to be extremely popular, and we anticipate this additional program to be accepted as well,” Smith said.
During a recent County Commission meeting, the proposal to extend the partial property tax payment plan received support.
Commissioner Ed Elkins noted the plan requires no additional labor or county expense since enrollment for a monthly property tax payment plan for current and future taxes was approved in 2010.
Information about the partial payment plans is available at the trustee’s office or by calling the office at 423-728-7247.
