East Ridge police have arrested a man in last night’s robbery of a Walgreen’s pharmacy on Ringgold Road.

According to a news release, the white male entered the pharmacy and handed over a note demanding oxymorphone and Fentanyl and threatening to kill the employees if they didn’t hand it over.

Witnesses told police the robber told the pharmacy workers “to get them quick or he would start shooting employees and customers and kill himself.” He also placed his hand in his pocket in such a way as to suggest that he was armed.

The pharmacy workers handed turned over about $1,500 worth of Fentanyl and the robber left on foot.

East Ridge police officers arrived at 11:32 p.m. and saw a man running north on McBrien Road. Police ran him down on foot and took him into custody as he was attempting to ingest the stolen medication, the news release stated.

James McCormick 21, of East Ridge, is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Court on Feb. 10 on an aggravated robbery charge. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
