How many government agencies does a citizen have to contact just to find out who’s protecting our waterways?
I’ve been asking questions about the massive tree clearing underway on portions of the proposed 850-acre Project River property on Lower River Road. And the more answers I get, the more questions I have.
(Project River, per Chattanooga Times Free Press reporting, is a proposal from the Wright family, of local company Wright Brothers Construction, to build two power plants and a likely data center on more than 800 acres the family owns.)
On Oct. 2, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Chattanooga Environmental Field Office reported finding no Division of Water Resources records matching my request.
On Oct. 7, Mayor Kevin Brooks told me Cleveland, Tennessee, has “zero jurisdiction” because the property hasn’t been annexed. He said it’s all Bradley County.
