Students from six companies will appear on the same stage tonight, Oct. 6, during the 16th annual Chattanooga Dances! concert in the Center for Creative Arts auditorium.
Chattanooga Dances! highlights the city’s nonprofit dance organizations along with schools that maintain a full dance curriculum. Appearing in this year’s concert are Ballet Tennessee, Barger Academy of Fine Arts, Baylor’s Verve, Center for Creative Arts’ Project Motion, Chattanooga Ballet and GPS’ Terpsichord.
The evening will showcase the diversity in the dance community, with works ranging from ballet to modern to jazz choreography. The concert includes both professional and student choreographers.
Karen Wilson, director of dance at Center for Creative Arts, believes the collaboration shows “what can be accomplished by working together.”
Jessica Laliberte Bowman of CCA adds that Chattanooga is “the only city in the state that brings their dance community together to perform on one stage.”
Felicion McMillon of Barger Academy also values the community involvement.
“Barger Academy Movement makers have had the opportunity to perform many places in Chattanooga and beyond, but the performance opportunity that we always get extremely excited about is Chattanooga Dances,” she says. “This will be our fourth year participating in Chattanooga Dances. This concert is, in my opinion, one of the best evenings of dance that Chattanooga has to offer.”
