MACC opens GALLERY 5

Room No. 5 at the MACC has been transformed into GALLERY 5, a place for showing and selling works by Chattanooga-area artists.

“Being that we are a fine-arts and community center, it follows that we would do art exhibits and sales,” said MACC Director Barb Storm. “It follows the natural progression of improvements here at MACC.”

Val Gibson, who teaches visual arts at the MACC, is heading a subcommittee of the MACC board that will make a new juried selection of professional or semiprofessional artists each month to exhibit at the gallery.

“We wanted to offer a place on the mountain where artists can exhibit their work,” Gibson said. “I think it’s an exciting thing for the mountain.”

The Mountain Education Foundation was the first to use the space for an exhibit, which featured International Baccalaureate students from Signal Mountain High School, said Storm.
