Ruby Falls features new aerial course challenge

Chattanooga is already a destination for sports on land, water and in the air, but with the addition of ZipStream at Ruby Falls outdoor enthusiasts are now in the trees.

“The overall goal of ZipStream Aerial Adventure was to create an additional natural attraction to Ruby Falls,” said Hugh Morrow, president of Ruby Falls. “It’s powered by people’s muscles and gravity. It lets people get out and climb in the trees like they did as a kid, but in a safe environment.”

The ZipStream Aerial Adventure built by The Adventure Guild opened as the newest addition to the Ruby Falls experience May 1. The course is set up similar to a ski slope, with varying levels of difficulty from the orange diamond for children ages 6 to 10 to the green and blue diamond courses for ages 11 and older.

“We’ve provided an adventure that is more than just sitting in a harness,” said Graham Harrell, a course manager for ZipStream Aerial Adventure.

Harrell said the green course is compiled of 11 elements and the blue has nine that vary in difficulty as well as heights, from 12 to 50 feet off the ground. Adventurers must tackle swinging steps, a log roll, the chopsticks, a multi-vine crossing and many other elements including ladders, tunnels and bridges that take anywhere from 45 minutes to more than an hour to complete. Each course ends with a ride on a zip line.
