The son of a Walker County man found slain this morning is the “prime suspect” in the crime, the sheriff says.
Sheriff Steve Wilson was on the phone with the Chattanooga Times Free Press about 5:40 p.m. today when he received a radio call announcing that Eric Thomas Jackson, 30, was in custody.
Though Jackson has not confessed to the killing of 62-year-old Clarence Jackson, Wilson said he is the “prime suspect.”
Eric Jackson, a LaFayette, Ga., resident, is an independent contractor who delivers papers for the Times Free Press.
Clarence Jackson was found dead at 1038 Lee School Road in LaFayette by his wife, Wilson said. Eric Jackson lived in the house with his father and mother, the sheriff said.
“It looks like he has sustained trauma to various parts of his body, along with some type of puncture wounds,” Wilson said. “There doesn’t appear to be a gun involved.”
Wilson said tension between Eric Jackson and his father had been building over the past couple weeks.
