J. Chris Newberg started his career as a bar musician in Detroit. After studying improvisation at famed Second City, his act evolved into a combination of music and comedy.

He has written music for “American Idol,” but also been a quarter-finalist on “America’s Got Talent,” performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Season 4 of “Last Comic Standing” and “The Tonight Show” when Jay Leno was host.

Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 13-16, he’ll be at The Comedy Catch, 1400 Market St.

Tickets are $12 for the 7:30 p.m. shows Thursday and Sunday. Tickets are $18 for the 7:30 or 9:45 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday.
