Chattanooga lags U.S. in share of women in construction

According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only about 13% of payroll employees in the construction industry are women – a number that has remained relatively stagnant since the 1990s. In Chattanooga, only 8.8% of all construction workers are women.

Here are the top U.S. cities for women in construction:

1. Tallahassee. Florida – 30.8%

2. Sandy Springs, Georgia – 30.7%

3. Pembroke Pines, Florida – 29.3%

4. Carmel, Indiana – 29.3%

5. Mobile, Alabama – 28.7%
