Clinton had better economy than Bush
Why don’t elected Republicans like Democrats?
President Clinton served two terms and did not increase the national debt as much as the previous two Republican presidents and had a $230 billion surplus in his 2000 FY Budget. This took away Republicans’ critical talking points against the Democrats.
The surplus posed serious problems for the Republicans and what they decided to do with it. It was not to start paying down the $5.4 trillion debt in 2001.
At that time, after eight years of a Democratic administration, our republic was not in an economic recession and not on the verge of an economic depression. We should be asking: Why would citizens even want to elect a Republican president, knowing their governing history?
