Judge recuses himself from ex-detective’s trial

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A judge has recused himself from the second trial of a former Rutherford County detective who is accused of tampering with evidence and lying to police after his patrol car struck and killed a Kentucky girl.

The Daily News Journal reported on Tuesday that Rutherford County Judge David Bragg recused himself about two weeks after Sheriff Truman Jones called him a friend of law enforcement and mentioned the trial during a public event last month.

Former detective Ron Killings was found not guilty earlier this year of reckless homicide in the 2008 death of Lakeisha White of Hopkinsville, Ky. Bragg oversaw that trial and was scheduled to hear the upcoming trial on the additional charges.

Bragg told the newspaper it would be inappropriate to comment on the ongoing case and a new judge has been assigned for now.
