Alabama State Parks have free camping at all 22 parks across the state starting Sunday and continuing through Thursday.
State parks officials are calling it “Customer Appreciation Days,” the first phase of the state agency’s 2015 “Bring a Friend” promotion to encourage use of the more than 48,000 acres of Alabama’s park land and water.
“In addition, we will be providing a 50-percent discount on all of our lodge hotel rooms, cabins, cottages and chalets at all parks,” the Alabama State Parks promotion states.
There are five state parks within a two-hour drive of Chattanooga: DeSoto State Park in Fort Payne is the closest, followed by Buck’s Pocket State Park on the Jackson-Dekalb county line, Cathedral Caverns State Park and Guntersville State Park, both in Marshall County, and Monte Sano State Park near Huntsville.
