COAHULLA CREEK COLTS

Head coach: Danny Wilson (first year here; 88-49 overall)

Returning starters: 3 offensive; 4 defensive

Key players: OL Will Bates (6-2, 190); RB Tyler Locklear (6-1, 200); DL Adam Alexander (5-10, 190); LB Mason Milstead (5-11, 175); LB Titus Underwood (5-9, 180); QB Kade Kinnamon (5-10, 170); LB Eion Keener (6-0, 200).

Team strengths: In Wilson’s first season leading the program, the Colt have nice young talent, especially on defense with several athletic sophomores expected to play big roles. First-year starters Keener and LB Will Douglas (6-0, 180) will give the team the kind of sideline-to-sideline defenders needed to compete in Region 6-AAA. On offense, sophomore Locklear in particular has the size to make a difference in the backfield.

Team concerns: A program still trying to find its identity almost a decade into existence must fill 15 starting spots, so experience and depth are Wilson’s biggest concerns. There’s not a lot of size up front on either side of the ball, which might show up more on offense if the Colts can’t find a passing game.
