Center for Creative Arts receives two national honors
Center for Creative Arts, Hamilton County’s performing arts magnet school, has received two national awards. CCA was designated as a 2015-2017 Exemplary School by Arts Schools Network and was named a 2015 National School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America.
The Arts Schools Network designation recognizes a school’s commitment to excellence and is presented to an ASN member school for “efforts to evaluate strategically its purpose, operations and educational programs,” according to Kristy Callaway, ASN executive director.
Magnet Schools of America merit awards are given to “highest quality theme-based schools and programs. They are models of success and represent the best in public education,” says Todd Mann, MSA executive director.
Deborah Smith is principal of CCA, which has an enrollment of 600 students in grades 6-12. Applications will available in November for students wishing to audition for admittance to the school in 2016.
Doshi selected for National Honors Orchestra
Parth Doshi, son of Jayesh and Neema Doshi, has been selected for the National Honors Orchestra sponsored by the National Association of Music Education. The orchestra will rehearse at Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville Oct. 25-28. The students will perform a concert on the Grand Ole Opry stage on Oct. 28.
Doshi, a student at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences, is a first violinist in the CSO Youth Orchestra.
Instrumentalists are chosen for this honors orchestra through a multi-tier audition process. The musician must be in 10th, 11th or 12th grade, have been accepted to their state’s all-state orchestra and submit a two-minute video demonstrating musical skills.
