Dalton State College officials announced today they will cut six positions and may have to schedule furlough days if fall enrollment falls much below that of last year in order to meet its fiscal year 2012 budget.
“At the same time that we’re looking at decreased funding from the state, we are also forecasting a five percent decline in enrollment,” Dalton State President John Schwenn said in a news release.
The college’s fiscal year 2012 state appropriation of $12.7 million is $1.2 million less than for fiscal year 2011, according to the release.
The school also will cut back library hours and reduce library acquisitions and close the pool in Bandy Gymnasium, among other measures.
If enrollment drops more than the five percent forecast, then Dalton State employees could see fourloughs or more reduction in part-time faculty, Schwenn said.
Enrollment for the fall 2010 was 5,988, up 4.6 percent from the prior fall, according to school officials.
