Chattanooga firefighters arrived at 3913 Merrywood Lane this afternoon after receiving reports of a house fire.
Five companies that responded used hand-held hose lines and were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes, according to Bruce Garner, spokesman for the Chattanooga Fire Department.
No one was in the house at the time of the fire, and it is believed it began after a resident discarded some smoldering cooking materials into a container outside the home, Garner said in a written statement.
Significant fire damage was reported to the home’s living and dining rooms, and the rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage. Garner said there was a beauty shop inside the residence that also sustained damage, and no injuries were reported.
