Location: North Hamilton County, about 18 miles, or 15 minutes, from downtown Chattanooga
Size: Soddy-Daisy encompasses about 24 square miles along Dayton Pike and U.S. Highway 27
Date founded: April 1969
History: The combination of the city of Soddy to the north and Daisy to the south, Soddy-Daisy’s two names have debatable origins. “Soddy” may come from “Tsati,” a shortened version of the Cherokee word for the people who lived in the area prior to Cherokee removal, or possibly from a corruption of William Sodder’s Trading Post. “Daisy” comes from Daisy Parks, daughter of the Tabler-Clendys Coal Co.’s Thomas Parks, vice president of the company in the 1930s.
Government: City Manager Janice Cagle runs the town under supervision by Mayor Rick Nunley, Vice Mayor Patti Skates and commissioners Jim Adams, Gene Shipley and Robert Cothran.
