Neighborly fun

Sample house specialties of 19 restaurants and caterers at the annual Taste of North Shore, Sample of Southside & the Not-So-Silent Auction on Thursday night at The Mill.

The benefit is a fundraiser for Northside Neighborhood House. Rachel Gammon, NNH executive director, said proceeds support the nonprofit’s emergency direct assistance to residents living north of the river, and help fund educational programming for children and adults.

Gammon said the Not-So-Silent Auction is patterned on the Executive Women International auction. Bids on all items are $10 or less.

“It’s an unusual twist on a live auction,” she said of the lively event. “Our auctioneers will be Bryon Kelly, Seth Gammon and Sarah Ade. The auction goes really quickly.”

Among items for bid are a signed Peyton Manning ballcap, football signed by Tony Brown, smocked children’s clothing from Bellies & Babies, weekend getways, handmade jewelry, gift certificates, $100 Yacoubian certificate, children’s camp vouchers, gift baskets and art from North Shore and Southside artists.

A Christmas quilt made by women associated with NNH will be the door prize.

Earlier this week, 80 seats remained. Advance reservations are required by Tuesday; call 267-2217.
