CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Kayla Sewell and her Walker Valley teammates affectionately refer to their girls’ basketball team as “Lee Junior.”
It’s all right, though: If the Lady Mustangs can duplicate the success of their new coach Jan Spangler’s alma mater, there won’t be any complaints.
Spangler takes over a Walker Valley team that won 32 games and advanced to the program’s Class AAA state tournament. The Lady Mustangs return four seniors, all of whom started at some point during the 2009-10 season.
“We have a great group of seniors that are good leaders and expect to win,” Spangler said. “They expect to win, and they know how to, which has made it easy on us.
“Their leadership has helped the transition out, because they’re open-minded about things.”
