Driver test center rolls to Red Bank

The state of Tennessee is moving its Driver License Testing Station from Cherokee Boulevard to Dayton Boulevard, next door to the Red Bank Recycling Center, with construction expected to begin by late summer.

“The construction will begin within 30 to 45 days after the State Fire Marshall’s Office approves the plans,” said red Bank Mayor Joe Glasscock. “We are tickled to death that the driver testing station is moving to Red Bank. It will bring more traffic to Dayton Boulevard.”

He said the new location across the street from Freudenburg Lane will provide a more central location for residents north of the river to take tests to obtain or renew their driver’s licenses.

“There is a possibility a satellite office of the state Highway Patrol will be located inside the center too,” said Glasscock, who originally wrote a letter to Tennessee land acquisition specialist Richard Smith in 2007 requesting that the local testing center move to Dayton Boulevard.

He said the station’s new one-story building will span approximately 8,000 square feet, have landscaping along the driveway leading to the facility and provide 105 parking spaces. He said the state chose to move the facility because of the need for more parking spaces.

According to Glasscock, Jerrold Pedigo Realty & Construction, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., will construct the new station for people. Pedigo will own the building and lease it to the state for 20 years.
