UTC gets seven on all-SoCon teams

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team had seven players voted to the Southern Conference coaches’ postseason all-conference teams.

The league announced the honors Tuesday and perhaps the most notable result of the voting was Mocs wide receiver Joel Bradford’s spot on the second team. Bradford led the SoCon with 1,284 receiving yards and his 81 receptions and eight touchdowns were second in the league.

The first-team wideouts were Elon’s Aaron Melette, who led the league with 86 catches and 12 touchdowns, and Furman’s Adam Mims. A preseason all-conference pick by the coaches, Mims was fourth in the SoCon in receptions (55) and yards per game (72.4).

Mocs redshirt freshman cornerback Kadeem Wise was voted the league’s freshman of the year. Wise was second in the SoCon with six interceptions, a UTC freshman record.

Three UTC seniors made the first team: left tackle Chris Harr, tight end Garrett Hughes and cornerback Buster Skrine.

Quarterback B.J. Coleman, Bradford, defensive end Chris Donald and linebacker Ryan Consiglio – all juniors – made the second team.

The Mocs had five players voted to the all-freshman team: Wise, wide receiver Marlon Anthony, running back Keon Williams and linebackers Gunner Miller and D.J. Key.

UTC went 6-5 and finished tied for third in the SoCon with a 5-3 mark in league play.
