Ruby Page, owner of Page Family Properties, won a partial victory Monday in an effort to rezone her family’s property from residential to manufacturing.
She asked for an M1 heavy manufacturing zone, but received an M2 for light industrial from the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission because of questions surrounding the necessity of a heavy manufacturing zone for the stated purpose of parking vehicles.
Her scrap metal recycling operation, which witnesses have previously said generates noise pollution when in operation, is in a mixed residential and manufacturing neighborhood a few blocks off Rossville Boulevard, straddling the Tennessee-Georgia border.
Nearby resident Virginia Goss brought along a large bag of ear plugs she said she has purchased to block out the noise.
Rossville Mayor Johnny Baker spoke in favor of the Page family’s application.
