Winter Workshop gives you a heads-up on critter encounters

In honor of Groundhog Day, Outdoor Chattanooga’s next Winter Workshop, 6-7:30 p.m. today, Feb. 2, will focus on “Critter Encounters – Backyard to Backwoods.”

Participants will be able to get close to several rescued forest animals to gain a greater understanding of the creatures and learn more on how to prevent problematic and dangerous encounters while visiting the forest to hike or camp.

The session will cover techniques to critter-proof a campsite, including how to hang a bear bag.

Instructors are Terri Chapin, a Leave No Trace master educator and program coordinator for Outdoor Chattanooga, and Corey Hagen, director of education/wildlife management at Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center.

Held at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St., the free workshop is suitable for all ages.
