The staff of Hunter Museum of American Art is partnering with Avalon Hospice to offer a unique opportunity in grief support through art therapy.

“Healing HeARTS at the Hunter” will take place Wednesday, Aug. 30, at noon for anyone who has experienced a loss. Participants will be invited to gather in a quiet, private space and view a particular work of art, drawing from it thoughts, feelings and experiences of their own journey through loss and grief.

Sessions will be facilitated by staff from Hunter Museum and Avalon Hospice. Participants will be invited to speak, to write or draw, but may also just listen and observe if they prefer. The hope of this art therapy is that by sharing and learning together, participants might grow from their circumstances and know that they are not alone in their feelings.

Hunter Museum of American Art, 10 Bluff View, is handicap-accessible.

Although the event is free, registration is requested by calling Cathy Meyer at Avalon Hospice, 423-892-3737.
