CALHOUN, Tenn. – An employee was injured today fighting a fire at the Abitibi Bowater plant.
The fire started this afternoon in one of the bunkers that holds coal used to power some of the plant’s machinery, a company official said.
Bowater, which manufactures newsprint at the Calhoun plant, has its own firefighting and emergency teams and the injured employee was a member of those teams, the official said. He was sent to Erlanger hospital, but the official would not give any more details.
The fire is still burning but is contained, the official said, although it may take a couple of days to fully extinguish the fire.
