Chattanooga: Jackson cites VW’s minority, environmental efforts

The Rev. Jesse Jackson today cited Volkswagen’s efforts to bring minority companies from the Chattanooga area into its supplier network.

Mr. Jackson, who visited a trade show in Chattanooga in which minority vendors were connecting with VW suppliers, said the German carmaker has learned something that America’s Big Three automakers had forgotten.

“VW has plans to build a community. That’s smart,” he said.

Mr. Jackson also met with local VW officials, getting an update from the company since he last talked with representatives of the automaker’s Chattanooga operations nearly a year ago.

He mentioned the automaker’s environmentally friendly autos and its efforts to produce even greener cars. He cited the importance of environmental initiatives in the wake of the gigantic BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
