An utter mistake

One inch can make the difference on a putt.

One word can make the difference in a head-to-head match, as was the case Friday during the NCAA Championship at The Honors Course.

And that word is “match.”

Stanford junior Steve Ziegler made a mess of No. 17 and intended to concede the hole to Oklahoma State’s Morgan Hoffman. But he said, “Good match,” thus ending it there instead of heading to No. 18 with Ziegler 1 down.

The Rules of Golf state that “a concession may not be declined or withdrawn.”
