The North Georgia Electric Membership Corp. celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding Wednesday. The member-owned utility, which has grown to serve 99,000 customers in seven Northwest Georgia counties, was chartered by the state on May 11, 1936.
The co-op was started three years after former President Franklin Roosevelt signed into law the Tennessee Valley Authority, which supplies power to the North Georgia co-op and 154 other distributors.
“It’s a significant milestone in our history, and we have a wonderful legacy and story to celebrate,” said Stephanie Holder, director of member services.
