Tour explores Ross’s Landing

Today is the deadline to sign up for Chattanooga History Center’s 10th Nicely tour. Walkers will explore Ross’s Landing at 6 p.m. Tuesday, based on a section of Maury Nicely’s “Chattanooga Walking Tour and Historic Guide.”

The History Center’s executive director and curator, Dr. Daryl Black, will serve as tour guide.

The tour will begin at the pier at Ross’s Landing, once the northern edge of the Cherokee Nation. After the Cherokee removal, the landing became the center of the new city of Chattanooga, and the site continues to be prominent, functioning as the hub of cultural and recreational attractions. Many of Chattanooga’s history stories are connected to Ross’s Landing or to sites that can be visually referenced from it.

The tour will include stops at two of the 12 new Civil War Trail markers recently installed in the Chattanooga area.

Cost of the tour is $3 per person. Call 265-3247, ext. 10, to register.
