Built by C.E. James in 1913, the Signal Mountain Inn was basically the start of the Signal Mountain community, which James connected to the valley by building a trolley up the mountain. Purchased by the Alexian Brothers in 1936 and renamed the Alexian Inn, the historical building is the featured landmark on this year’s collectible ornament sold by the Walden’s Ridge Guild.
“It’s a neat landmark,” said guild member Susan Jensen, adding that the club tries to rotate between landmarks in Walden and Signal Mountain for its ornaments from year to year.
Past ornaments have featured the W Road, the Little Brown Church and Signal Mountain Elementary (now the Mountain Arts Community Center). Limited quantities of each are still available, she said.
The ornaments are sold for $15 apiece or all four ornaments for $50. They can be purchased from guild members or at Yessick’s on Signal, the Walden Town Hall and Signal Mountain Farmer’s Market.
“They just make great gifts,” said Jensen. “It’s fun to collect them.”
