Bradley Central’s Bearettes dominated their opponents’ court early in the second half to beat East Hamilton 62-22 Friday night in a District 5-AAA basketball game.
Freshman Rhyne Howard scored 17 points in the first half to give Bradley a 26-13 lead. She finished with a career-high 27 points and also had five rebounds.
Sophomore Sidney Morgan added 10 points for the Bearettes, who have eight days before playing again.
“I wasn’t pleased with the way we played in the first half,” Bradley coach Jason Reuter said. “We are going to take the rest of the weekend off and try to get everyone back healthy; then Monday we will get back to work.”
The Lady Hurricanes came out of the locker room trying to close the gap, beginning with three points from junior Kyndall Caudle to open the third quarter. But Bradley went on a 21-0 run to finish the period.
“The first time we played them, it was a runaway in the first half,” Lady Hurricanes coach Derek Morris said. “The thing we keep stressing to these young guards is improvement, improvement. We had some turnovers, yes, but compared to what we would have had early in the year and the last time we played them, we really cut them down.”
Caudle led East Hamilton with nine points.
