Mayor to delay TVA parking

Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield said today he is delaying plans for a downtown parking garage to serve TVA employees and other downtown workers.

The mayor had included $6.5 million in his proposed capital budget, but City Council members objected to the request.

In 2008, Littlefield pledged to TVA to build a 1,000-space parking garage either in the 1000 block of Market Street on the former Civic Forum block or next to the Convention and Trade Center parking garage. The mayor sent a letter of intent for the downtown parking facility as part of the city’s negotiations to keep TVA’s Chattanooga Office Complex and its 2,600 employees in downtown Chattanooga.
