The Chicken Whisperer, an expert on the growing trend of keeping backyard chickens, will visit the Fort Oglethorpe Tractor Supply store today.
Also known as Andy Schneider, he will be broadcasting his radio show, “Backyard Poultry With the Chicken Whisperer,” between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. He also will be available for questions, photos and autographs during this time.
Mr. Schneider is the owner of Atlanta Pet Chickens and Classroom Chickens, contributor to several magazines and founder/organizer of the Atlanta Backyard Poultry Meetup Group, which has grown to more than 1,000 members. He will share his expertise on how to start a small backyard flock of chickens the right way.
“There are many advantages of keeping a small backyard flock of chickens, and you no longer have to live on a farm to benefit from these advantages,” he says in his press material.
During the Chicken Whisperer’s visit, a free animal swap meet will take place in the Tractor Supply parking lot. Participants are welcome to buy, sell or trade poultry (chickens, ducks, turkeys) and small animals (rabbits, goats, sheep, etc.). All animals must be properly maintained on the grounds, and USDA regulations must be observed.
Tractor Supply is at 1785 Battlefield Parkway; phone 706-861-4536. The first 25 fans who mention the secret code (Whisper) will receive a free large shake from Sonic Drive-In.
