Reception opens ‘Memories’ exhibit in Ringgold, Ga.

"Secrets" by Janice Kindred is an acrylic painting that the artist says reminds her "of a grove of poplar trees I used to sit amongst when I was a child. The lovely air swirled through the branches causing the leaves to applaud its presence. It was its own secret private place."

Mixed Media Inspired Artists opens a new 2D and 3D art show, “Memories,” Thursday, April 5, in Ringgold Art and Frame, 7825 Nashville St., Ringgold, Ga.

A free reception to meet the artists will be held tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at the gallery.

Mixed Media Inspired Artists is a group from Chattanooga and the surrounding area that explores acrylic and mixed-media techniques taught by Sandra Paynter Washburn in classes and workshops at Art Creations at Hamilton Place.

Washburn founded MMIA in 2015 to provide exhibition opportunities for her advanced students. Learning in an experimental way at first, the members’ work has evolved into more deliberate and purposeful styles.

The artists selected “Memories” for their exhibition of work inspired by their personal recollections. A few thoughts from each artist are posted with their art so visitors will see how memories inspired that work.

The show will remain on view until May 3.
