Amanda Bradley knows winter brings more than a little gray around here, so she didn’t hesitate to take advantage of a weekend in which Chattanooga felt like California.
“The winter’s always kind of a depressing time for me, so Friday, Saturday and today I went outside and stayed out there until the sun went down,” said Ms. Bradley, a psychology student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. “About to chill in my hammock right now. It’s nice.”
Sadly for her and others longing for springtime, meteorologists are calling for a low pressure system to move into the area after Sunday’s Coolidge Park-filling 68 degree high. That means the mercury moving inside area thermometers should start falling very soon.
“We’ll have some moisture in the area (today) with winds from a northerly direction,” said Derek Eisentrout, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn. “That will bring in colder air. By Thursday, your highs will be back toward the upper 40s.”
After hearing that news, Ms. Bradley felt a momentary mood lapse on a day that featured temperatures at 12 degrees above average. But she looked ahead with a smile.
