Councilman-elect Byrd pledges to be accessible
Saying “thank you” is not enough to express how appreciative and truly blessed I am that District 8 voters elected me to be their next city councilman. I am humbled by voters’ confidence and trust in me to represent what is in the best interest of our community and to move District 8 forward.
Over the next four years, I pledge to prove my dedication by remaining committed, accountable and accessible to constituent oncerns and needs. I especially want to thank SEIU Local 205, Chattanooga Firefighter’s Association, The Chattanooga Times and Chattanooga Free Press editorial pages which endorsed me and everyone who donated to my campaign.
I am forever grateful to my hard-working campaign committee, campaign manager Veronica Dunson, treasurer Steve Riggs and all those who provided me guidance and support. I will work tirelessly to move District 8 and Chattanooga forward by focusing on my campaign priorities of being your voice, keeping you informed and investing in people.
Thank you for having faith in me. I am ready to serve you and make you proud.

Republicans slammed as ‘self-serving ideologues’
Who are you people? I shudder to imagine how much lower you can go than separating children from parents at the border. Reducing access for prenatal care. Making sick children even sicker because of dirtier air and water. Denying a parent control of their child’s medical care. Supporting unattainable costs of care for a child with a catastrophic illness.
This is who you appear to be to me. Heartless. Self-serving ideologues who care nothing about humanity; spewing platitudes that garner you votes while knowing the very lives of those voters will be diminished by your callous disregard for life.
If you support these Republican policies, dare not say you value the life of any child – or any human being for that matter. Stand up for real Christian values or drop the “family value” moniker you would undeservedly bear.

Reader says ‘core values’ missing in opinion pages
Does the Chattanooga Times Free Press make liars out of the paper’s chairman, publisher and president when promoting Adolph Ochs’ philosophy, which says plainly “To Give the News Impartially Without Fear or Favor.”
Read the left side editorial page of this newspaper as well as the anti-Trump rants in the Sunday Perspective section, and it’s nothing but left-wing Democratic news.
I do not see Mr. Ochs’ core values. So in my eyes you have made the three people who run this paper liars of Mr. Ochs’ words “impartially.”
