Dual-title schools

Two or three times a week, Clay Martin follows his Arts & Sciences girls’ basketball team out onto the court for a game. On each occasion, his Lady Patriots have two opponents, with one being the team they are about to face.

The other? A team they will never face head to head yet compete against every night: the CSAS boys.

Both CSAS squads enter tonight’s District 5-A games against Silverdale with 9-0 records within the league. They also hold longtime win streaks in district play, with Martin’s girls having won 29 consecutive games and Mark Dragoo’s boys having surpassed 50 victories in a row.

“We’re all one big family,” Martin said. “The girls want to win because the boys do, and I think the guys feel the same way. Coach Dragoo and I both have that competitive feel, but again, it’s friendly. We call each other, tell one another good job and sort of push each other along.”

CSAS has solved what has seemed to be a pretty difficult task at schools — having two successful basketball programs. The two teams have combined to go 39-11 this season.
