SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The postgame meal from Zaxby’s on the bus had to taste very good for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s basketball team Thursday night.

The Mocs limited Wofford to 30 percent shooting from the field and made all the key plays down the stretch to defeat the Southern Conference’s top team 56-46 in front of 1,897 fans Thursday night at Benjamin Johnson Arena.

The Mocs improved to 17-9 overall and 10-3 in conference play and now are a game behind the Terriers (20-6, 11-2) in the league standings. UTC is alone in second place after Mercer lost 58-54 to Western Carolina on Thursday.

The Mocs will host Samford at 6 p.m. Saturday in the second half of a doubleheader with the UTC women. It will be the first of three straight home games for the Mocs after three on the road.

Thursday’s game was Wofford’s first loss at home of the season and gave UTC a 3-1 record against the Terriers and a 2-0 mark at Benjamin Johnson Arena since Will Wade took over as coach.
